Alyson Green's "Secret" is out

The resurgence in young jazz singers and the ensuing popularity of the genre, has brought to the music scene a wealth of debut albums.

Alyson Green's story is different: After a career as a young singer in London, performing in jazz clubs and touring with the Herb Miller Big Band, Alyson took a break to bring up her young family and found herself in Brighton.

After re-appearing on the Brighton circuit, Alyson has become well known locally for her unique interpretation of some of the great jazz classics.

Her first CD "SECRET" contains a collection of 12 carefully chosen songs. These include some lesser-known songs like "Where I Belong" (lyrics by Kurt Elling), "Love Vibrations" (by Horace Silver) and a reworking of Maroon 5's "Secret" in addition to a number of well-known standards in her natural individual style.

The CD sees Alyson collaborate with some of the UK's finest jazz musicians. Mark Edwards on piano (who also produced the album), the world class Jim Mullen on guitar, Ben Castle on saxophone (who performed on Jamie Cullum's recent album), Andy Cleyndert on bass and Paul Robinson on drums. Alyson said: "To have the opportunity to work with such talented and inspirational musicians has been a joy."

On reviewing the album, established jazz singer and presenter of BBC Radio 3's "Jazz Line-up", Claire Martin said:

"Her very natural musicianship shines through in this collection…Alyson loves to tell a story. You can hear that she is 'inside the lyric' and loving the songs. Her singing is from the heart, delicate, real and passionate. A really impressive debut"
